The Florida Keys offer some of the finest fishing in the world. Anglers can go out beyond the reef into the deep blue waters of the Gulfstream in search of dolphin, marlin, or yellowfin tuna, to name a few. Those fishermen who prefer staying closer to shore spend their time in the Backcountry of the Keys hoping for the opportunity to hook a tarpon or bonefish.

Diving and Snorkeling

The Florida Keys are home to the only living coral reef system in North America and the third largest barrier reef in the world. This famous natural wonder stretches along the ocean side of the islands and has become a popular destination for millions of snorkelers and divers who come to swim among the tropical fish, living coral and other marine life that reside within the colorful reef. Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary off of Big Pine Key is the most popular diving and snorkeling site in the Lower Keys. In 1981 the area was designated as a Marine Sanctuary, banning the collection and removal of all coral and marine life that live within the reef. The site is ideal for snorkelers and divers of all levels given its’ varying depths, friendly fish and beautiful corals. The Adolphus Busch is the most recent addition to the dive sites of the Lower Keys. In 1998, the Adolphus Busch was intentionally sunk in 110 feet of water to create an artificial reef. This site has become popular among experienced divers and the diverse marine and plant life that call this wreck home.
